Rockstar Games has not released Grand Theft Auto VI yet, but Xbox may have just shown an installed, early access copy sitting on a Series S/X console. The post, harmless at face value, naturally kicked off a whole round of discourse. Captioned "How our fall will be looking," it is a cozy lifestyle shot of an Xbox Series X setup, a TV showing the dashboard, a clear controller, pumpkins and autumn leaves around it.

However, this casual fall-lineup photo from the official Xbox account has many convinced the company already has the game installed and running, weeks before anyone else can play it. Aside from GTA 6, the games row shows the usual fall heavy hitters, Call of Duty, and EA FC 27. Front and center is the official Grand Theft Auto VI tile with its key art.

GTA 6 doesn't launch until November 19, so it's not something anyone should have installed yet. In the photo it appears on the dashboard the way a game you own looks. Since this is the official Xbox account showing its own hardware, somebody at Xbox might already have an early build of GTA 6 up and running on a Series X.

Platform holders routinely get early copies of big multiplatform games weeks before launch for performance testing, compatibility checks and marketing shots exactly like this one. Those marketing shots are the whole reason a tile like this exists, Xbox needs promotional images of its fall lineup and GTA 6 is the centerpiece of that lineup whether the photo is staged or pulled from a real console.

Xbox having the game in-house right now is normal and it's indeed possible there are people there lucky enough to playtest the game this early. The post also comes no more than 24 hours after a trusted insider said that review codes are going out right now with a November 18 embargo, so a platform holder having the game installed lines up with the moment the industry is at.

Xbox stands out because it is an official account. Anything it does will inevitably carry more weight than, let's say, Shirrako, the no-commentary walkthrough YouTuber whose palm tree emoji post set off early-access talk. With that said, between an official dashboard and a cryptic emoji, the pre-launch guessing game of who already has GTA 6 is in full swing.

None of this is a press release and Xbox is not about to turn a pumpkin photo into an announcement, but the game tile sitting on an official Xbox dashboard is the clearest hint yet that Grand Theft Auto has left Rockstar's hands and gone out for testing.
