Rockstar Games has set a release date for Grand Theft Auto VI Original Score, the adaptive album composed by Justice. It arrives December 11 on streaming, CD and vinyl, three weeks after Grand Theft Auto VI itself launches on November 19. Justice, the Grammy-winning French duo of Gaspard Augé and Xavier de Rosnay, wrote the score based on how you move through Vice City and Leonida across Jason and Lucia's story.

Rockstar confirmed the album on its Newswire on October 29. The Original Score runs 30 tracks, led by "Flower in a Hurricane" feat. Tame Impala, SZA and King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, the song that scored the launch trailer. A new single, "Pusher" feat. Gesaffelstein, was also released alongside the announcement.

The album is not just a mere background filler. Justice built an adaptive score, music dynamically tuned to the way each player moves through the world rather than a fixed set of cues. Handing a high-profile electronic act primary authorship of a score this large is a step up even for a studio that has always treated music as a core pillar.

Grand Theft Auto VI Original Score is a second separate album. It is Justice's instrumental, adaptive work and is not the same as Grand Theft Auto VI: The Album, a collection of 34 original songs from a long list of artists that launches with the game on November 19. The score follows on December 11.

Rockstar has done this before, just never at this scale. The studio has a long habit of commissioning adaptive original scores and releasing them as standalone albums.

GTA VI's Justice album is the biggest name and the widest release Rockstar has given a score.

Artist-led game scores are not unheard of, with No Man's Sky handing its soundtrack to 65daysofstatic and Max Payne 3 going to HEALTH, but few studios release multi-format score albums as reliably as Rockstar does. The Justice record pushes that further with bigger names, guest features and a wide physical run that includes a double CD and a triple vinyl set, one of them a limited crystal-clear edition. An early Apple Music listing in New Zealand showed 50 songs rather than 30 too, which could very well be the final tally after you line up the digital bonus tracks.

Music has been one of the loudest parts of the GTA VI rollout, from artists who could not stop revealing their own songs were in the game to the launch trailer that first paired the game with Justice and the game's first ever trailer that went viral with the song "Love Is a Long Road" by Tom Petty.

The score album is the next piece. It confirms how seriously Rockstar is treating the sound of Leonida, and that treatment has a long, solid history behind it. Take-Two Interactive has turned the soundtrack into a marketing engine that the Justice release keeps running through December.

The game is the main event, but everything around it, including music, is doing a lot of the talking. You can pre-save the album and hear "Pusher" now if you want an early sense of what Leonida sounds like.
